Updated Recommendations, March 2009
Dear colleague,
The Scottish Bowel Screening Programme Board has been drafting a series of quality assurance measures including diagnostic components of the programme (FOB lab, pathology, endoscopy).
The attached letter has been circulated to all NHS Board screening leads with a request that the recommendations are implemented locally. Similar efforts are underway in England and Wales.
From the pathology perspective the following are the main points:
- participation in national (UK) screening EQA (when this becomes operational).
- use of appropriate RCPath datasets in reporting of surgically and locally resected cancers.
- institution of a Scottish referral system for early endoscopically resected polyp cancers.
Details are on the attached. The SOP and slide referral proforma are also attached as a Word document. This material has already been discussed at the Scottish GI Pathology group. We will put this information on the SPAN website.
Please distribute to colleagues involved in GI reporting.
We will discuss at the next Steering Group meeting.
Thank you.
