Dako/National Procurement/SPAN

As you are aware National Procurement and SPAN have been working in partnership with Dako to harmonise catalogue and pricing structure across the NHS in Scotland. This has had 2 main aims to standardise pricing as much as possible and update the electronic entries for the PECOS E Procurement System.

Overall this will provide savings to the NHS in Scotland of £40k revenue without any region actually paying any more for an individual item and is seen as a stepping stone to further national negotiations on pricing. It has also enabled the labs whose buying power is not high to take advantage of improved prices.

Dako have been openly supportive throughout, supplying information as required and it is felt that the best outcome achievable at this time has been reached.

Antibody/reagent/equipment choice is a thorny issue and impacts diagnostically and therefor it should be stressed the agreement does not preclude the use of any particular companies systems or antibodies.

Some of the high throughput labs will not gain much, if anything through the new agreement but what will happen is that throughout a Health Board region there will be one price.

It does not affect the cost of 'bundles' mainly because the bundles in some regions were linked to reagent rental deals.
